You’ve come to this site wondering what InSitu is. The word itself means ‘in place’ or ‘on site’ and it’s meant to communicate that the spirit of the service is not to insist that people step away from where they are and force a ‘best case scenario’ mass market ideal or formula on their own situation. Rather that situation must be understood first, and the right available tools for that place and situation would be applied as needed.

Finding the right tools requires listening and understanding from the subject matter expert, and who that expert is depends on the service. An example would be if an individual is seeking coaching, the individual is the expert in their own life experience. The coach then takes the information and proposes things that might work for the client, who would either affirm ‘Yes this works for me’ or say ‘I can’t afford the time, the money, etc…’ and some alternative is worked out that would fit within the framework of their present situation.

You May be Seeking Community

Another example of the InSitu or ‘on site’ perspective is in community. Many people use the word and it seems to mean many things. A community can be as little as a collection of people based on their location or as much as a group of people willing to:

  • be vulnerable to/with one another
  • choose indispensability over disposability
  • take ownership in the group and stay invested
  • work toward a group of all leaders

There are so many different elements to a community and what its members need, that again a large scale one-size-fits-all approach may not offer a workable solution. Additionally, a community is exponentially more complex than an individual, most basically from the fact that it is a collection of complex individuals. This means you have many subject matter experts to hear from, with many strengths, desires, needs, fears, etc.. At the very base level, if someone from outside the community is called in, they must first actively listen to these experts. They must understand what sort of community or group of people is asking for outside assistance and what their vision or goal is before offering any tools or options.
